Summary for Builders:

Urania is free for commercial and non-commercial development. Don't aggressively scrape our entire dataset to re-host a clone, safeguard your API keys, and adhere to standard rate limits.

1. Scope & Acceptance

By generating an API key, querying our endpoints, or integrating Urania client SDKs into any application, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you are accepting on behalf of an enterprise or entity, you represent that you possess the authority to bind that entity.

2. Permitted Use & Quotas

Urania grants you a worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free license to access and consume our geographical endpoints for your websites, mobile apps, backend microservices, and internal tooling.

Rate Limiting: Each standard API key is provisioned with 1,000 burst requests per minute and 100,000 requests per month.
Caching: We explicitly permit and encourage clients to cache API responses locally using standard HTTP ETag validation.
Prohibited Activity: You may not perform bulk scraping routines designed to exhaust server memory or mirror the underlying database for resale.

3. Security & Key Confidentiality

You are exclusively responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your X-API-Key. If you suspect an API key has been exposed or compromised in public version control (e.g. GitHub), you must immediately rotate or revoke the key within your developer dashboard.

4. Data Warranty & Attribution

Geographical data—including administrative borders, city coordinates, population metrics, and timezones—is aggregated from public registries (including GeoNames and UN data sets) and maintained through open-source contributions.

The service is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis without warranties of any kind. While our automated pipeline validates coordinates, Urania is not liable for navigation, nautical, or flight decisions based on dataset coordinates.

5. Service Availability & SLA

We target 99.9% availability across our API cluster. Scheduled maintenance windows or critical database upgrades will be broadcast via status endpoints and dashboard notification feeds.

6. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend API access for keys engaged in active Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, brute-force endpoint hammering, or malicious exploits.
